CLAWSON, Mich. (WJBK) -- The body of a 44-year-old man has been found inside his Clawson home following an overnight standoff with police.

In a release, police say officers responded to a domestic violence call Tuesday evening at the home on the 400 block of Phillips Street.

When officers approached the front door, Charles Muse III could be seen carrying a shotgun. Police took cover and tried to convince him to talk. After 15 minutes, police say Muse fired several shots at officers.

They returned fire, striking Muse, who retreated.

Reports say Muse's wife and children fled via a side door.

The Oakland County SWAT team responded to the scene, set up a perimeter and entered the home around 2:30 a.m. to find the Muse's body on a bedroom floor.

The shooting is being investigated by the Oakland County Sheriff Department.
