Posted: Updated:

DARTMOUTH, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Concerns over Legionnaires' disease shut down Dartmouth's police station last week.

Bacterium that causes the illness was found in a hot water heating system. The station was shut down Friday after an officer was diagnosed with Legionnaires'.

The disease, which is a severe form of pneumonia, is spread through direct contact with the bacteria. It cannot be spread from person to person.

Police tell FOX 25 they hope to reopen the station by the middle of the week. Emergency calls to the station are being re-directed to the Westport Police Department.
