Woman Shot Point-Blank In Bedroom By Masked Man

Posted: Updated:

A woman was rushed to the hospital after being shot twice in the back in her own bedroom early Tuesday morning in Point Breeze.

The 24-year-old victim was the only person in her home on the 2200 block of Sears Street when a masked intruder forced his way inside around 1:30 a.m., then a very frightening scenario unfolded.

The woman tells police she was asleep and woke to find the male standing over her, wearing all dark clothing, and his face was covered with a dark mask.

For some unknown reason, she says this male then – without saying a word – fired two shots at her from point-blank range while she was lying in bed.

The male then ran from the scene. Police said they didn't find any ballistics evidence in the bedroom, which indicates a revolver may have been used.

Police say that nothing appears to have been taken, so investigators are trying to figure out a motive here. Investigators say there are surveillance cameras at a recreation center 300 feet from the scene, so they are hoping to have caught the gunman on video either coming or going.

The victim is in stable condition at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

She told police that she has no idea who the gunman is or why anyone would want to shoot her, but police are trying to figure out in fact if she may have been targeted because of the circumstances surrounding this.

Fortunately, the woman's young daughter was not home early Tuesday. She was sleeping at her grandmother's.

FOX 29's Dawn Timmeney has more details in this video report.
