Rep. Lynch's plans for Southie parade still up in the air

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- U.S. Congressman Stephen Lynch joined the FOX 25 Morning News on Wednesday to discuss the St. Patrick's Day Parade and his call for the release of classified documents related to the September 11 attacks.

When asked about whether or not he would be marching in the St. Patrick's Day Parade Sunday, the South Boston Democrat said it is still up in the air.

The Congressman joined Boston Mayor Marty Walsh in supporting a group of gay veterans who wished to march in the parade. Organizers came up with a tentative deal to allow the group to march, but later denied their application amid claims that only one member of the 20-person group was a veteran.

Lynch told FOX 25's Bob Ward that if there is only one veteran in the group, they can march with him and they can both march.

Rep. Lynch went on to discuss his push for the release of 9/11 documents.

"The time has come to disclose this information to the American people," said the Congressman.

Ward asked the Congressman if the documents would increase his own understanding of the details surrounding the attack.

"Bob, you're a pretty smart guy," the Congressman replied. "I think if you read these 28 pages, I think you'll have a fuller, more detailed understanding of what led up to the attacks on 9/11, yes I do."

Rep. Lynch scheduled a press conference Wednesday alongside North Carolina Republican Rep. Walter Jones to discuss their call for the papers to be released. Lynch said the first step is to have enough members of Congress approve legislation that will urge President Barack Obama to declassify the papers.
