Mother's Photography Inspires New Social Campaign

Katie Driscoll is a mother of six turned photographer. When 4-year-old Grace was born she decided to pick up a camera. The camera loving little girl has Down syndrome.

Driscoll wanted to take pictures of her only daughter and share them with family and friends.

"The one thing I didn't want was pity. I didn't want them to feel sorry for us and I didn't want them to feel sorry for her. We're very, very happy that we had a little girl," said Katie.

The more pictures she took the more she realized how much she never saw girls like grace in mainstream advertising, so she started a blog.

"I started reaching out to the community and asking families to share their children with me. And I would reach to vendors and ask for products. And from there it just continued to spiral," she said.

That led to a website she helped start called, "Changing The Face Of Beauty," a campaign to showcase more kids like grace.

The mom and daughter team were able to catch the attention of tori spelling.

Grace was featured in the actress's look book for her children's clothing line.

Driscoll's goal is for children like grace to be seen as people and not just as people with disabilities.

"If advertisers got on board, they would communicate to our world that this population is capable. And once people see individuals with disabilities as capable, I mean the sky is the limit," Katie said.
