DRACUT, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Authorities say a dark skinned man with curly hair has been stalking young women at the Planet Fitness in Dracut for at least a month. One of the victims was followed home from the gym and sexually assaulted outside her Ennell Street home in neighboring Lowell.
"The male had grabbed her by her ankles and was dragging her across the street away from her house," Lowell police officer Jerome Moore said.
Those details were released in a Lowell courtroom during the hearing for 19-year-old Bryant Tuff of Dracut Friday. Law enforcement asked FOX 25 not to show a clear picture of his face because the probe is ongoing.
The former Dracut High football star has been charged with the Ennell Street assault and is a suspect in others.
The most recent incident happened last week. A woman working out inside the gym said she saw a guy with a ski mask on sitting in a parked car watching her every move.
Planet fitness employees called police and Tuff was arrested blocks from the gym a short time later.
Detectives say they found a black ski mask in his backpack and one of the victims positively identified one of the cars he's known to drive, including damage to the driver's side door.
Tuff's family members defended him outside court and inside on the witness stand.
"It's my brother and I believe in everything he has to say and I believe he's completely innocent," Tuff's brother said.
On the evening of the Feb. 26 assault in Lowell, Tuff's grandmother says he was in her house the whole time, playing video games with his younger brother.
At the Planet Fitness, women are on alert.
Planet Fitness member Lauren Beauchesne said, "I had just gotten back from the gym it was like 10 o'clock at night. I‘m like oh my God, this could have happened to me, I was just there."
For now Tuff will remain in jail as authorities attempt to learn more about the stalker and Tuff's suspected role.
