Students Suspended For Wearing NRA Shirt

Posted: Updated:

Controversy surrounding a high school sophomore suspended for wearing an NRA t-shirt to school.

Shane Kinney, 16 years old, is an avid outdoors-man.

The high school student likes hunting as well as fishing, and he is a member of the National Rifle Association.

Kinney says he didn't think twice about wearing an NRA shirt to school.

"He didn't think anything was wrong with it and I don't either," says Shane's mother Kim.

The school feels that Kinney violated the code of conduct and gave him a day of in-school suspension.

Shane recalls, "he (a staff member) looked at it, he read it and told me to turn it inside out or duct tape it, and I refused."

People are rallying behind Shane and his family and applauding him for standing up for his first amendment rights.

But others are threatening the school and the Kinney family believe they are taking it too far.

"For all the good, there is bad.  And some people, administrators that are being threatened.  And we as a family-that was not our intention," explains Kim.
