Author defends message to find husband in college

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - Author Susan Patton is still making headlines almost a year after she wrote a letter to the Princeton University newspaper saying that college women should find a husband while in school.

Critics have come down hard on Patton who is defending her message in a new book, 'Marry Smart.'

Patton adds: work as hard on developing your personal life as you do on your career.

"The book is aimed to young women planning for their personal happiness. They've been told for decades that there is something incongruous with educated women wanting to be married and have children," said Patton.

The author points to the challenges women face if they wait to search for a husband.

"The concentration of appropriate men you will never have again: age appropriate, single, like minded and who you have the opportunity to meet in an organic way, over class, over a meal, walking on campus, will never happen again," said Patton.

Patton says the message is for any female student at any college.

"Young women don't understand that after college it's not so easy to meet appropriate men," said Patton.

For those who may have not met their mate in college, Patton says there are several things you can do to improve your odds:

1. join your alumni organization
2. go to church, synagogue, mosque and mingle!

'Marry Smart: Advice for Finding the One' is available now.
