Viral Sensation 'Lux' Sent To Animal Shelter

Posted: Updated:

The owners originally said they would not give up Lux, but instead seek therapy for the cat. But this afternoon we confirmed Lux was taken to the animal shelter while the family figures out whether they really want to give him up for good.

It's hard to imagine now that this adorably reserved cat is the culprit behind any attack.  Let alone one that would force an entire family to go into hiding.

But that just goes to show you, experts say, how certain stressors in a cat's life can trigger a sudden switch in behavior.

"Sounds like we have a very shy cat, with a very high strung personality, he likes things to be zen and calm," said an animal shelter visitor.

When we first met Lux, he was shying from our cameras in shame after his owners felt the need to call 911 on him.

The family says the black and white cat scratched their son, after he pulled on his tail.

The boy's father then reportedly kicked the cat. The cat went crazy with rage forcing the family to take cover.

The family made the difficult decision this morning, to send Lux to the shelter because of the whole ordeal.

She continues, "there's no shame in saying, we're not making each other happy and let's do something positive about that."

The shelter says they're giving the family 24 hours to think over their decision to give up Lux for good.

In the meantime,  they are getting him ready for a new home that doesn't have any young kids.

The family says they are not ready to comment on this situation at this point, saying that it is an ongoing and quote complex situation. We're told they plan to make their official decision sometime tomorrow.
