Port Authority to review $1 NJ Transit lot lease

Posted: Updated:

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) - The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is going to review a controversial deal it made with New Jersey's transit agency for a park-and-ride lot near the Lincoln Tunnel.

The extension allowed New Jersey Transit to lease the lot for $1 per year. NJ Transit had previously been paying more than $900,000 per year.

The two-year-old deal drew scrutiny after a published report said Port Authority Chairman David Samson failed to recuse himself from the vote even though his law firm performed work for NJ Transit.

The Port Authority later said Samson actually recused himself but his vote was recorded in error.

At Wednesday's monthly board meeting, the Port Authority's committee on operations said it would compile information for a possible vote at next month's meeting.
