WORCESTER, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – A Worcester woman and her son were charged for an alleged scheme to steal $96,000 from MassHealth.
Beverly Cousin, 66, was indicted Thursday on five counts of medicaid false claims and five counts of larceny over $250 by false pretenses.
Her son, Rashad Cousin, 31, was also indicted on three counts each of medicaid false claims and larceny over $250 by false pretenses.
The pair are accused of using family names to falsely bill MassHealth for more than $96,000 of Personal Care Attendant services.
Elder Services of Worcester Area, Inc. submitted a complaint to the Attorney General's office in February 2013 after learning that Cousin was not getting her authorized care and submitting false time sheets in her children's names, officials say. They allege she even submitted time sheets for services provided in the name of one of her sons while he was serving jail time.
Investigators claim Rashad Cousin also sent in time sheets using his incarcerated brother's name, billing for PCA services while his mother was in the hospital and keeping the money for himself.
The pair will be arraigned at a later date. The investigation remains ongoing.
