CLARKSTON, Ga. (AP) - A former Clarkston city councilwoman has been sentenced to eight months of home confinement for embezzling more than $75,000 from a local community center.

Sixty-nine-year-old Joan Swaney appeared in court Thursday. She was indicted on federal charges in October and resigned from the council shortly after that.

Federal prosecutors say Swaney used the money to help pay for medical bills, family vacations, car repairs, a boat charter and other personal expenses.

The U.S. Attorney's Office announced Thursday that a judge ordered her to repay the money she took from the center. Swaney already has repaid about $65,000.

The judge also ordered Swaney to perform 100 hours of community service - though not at the community center.
