Report: FBI agent cleared in fatal shooting of Tsarnaev's friend

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – A new report claims Florida prosecutors have concluded that the FBI agent who fatally shot a friend of accused Boston Marathon bombing mastermind Tamerlan Tsarnaev was justified in using deadly force.

The Washington Post reports prosecutors have concluded the shooting of Ibragim Todashev was justified.

Florida State Attorney Jeffrey Ashton's office released a statement Friday that read in part:

"The State Attorney has not made a final decision regarding the investigation into the death of Mr. Todashev and he has not communicated his decision to any federal officials. We do not know who said anything to the contrary. The original investigative report has been written, however, the Chief of Investigations has not yet submitted a supplemental report to the State Attorney. The State Attorney intends to review all materials over the weekend and make his final decision no later than sometime Monday."

Ibragim Todashev was killed in May 2013 while FBI agents questioned him about his friendship with Tamerlan Tsarnaev. Officials originally said the Chechen man lunged at an agent with a knife. They later said it was not clear what had happened.

Officials claim Todashev was about to give details and possibly confess to a triple murder in Waltham that Tsarnaev may have been involved in.

Todashev's family and close friends say he was never interviewed about the matter and that his case was not handled professionally.

There are conflicting reports about whether or not Todashev was armed on the night of his death. His family claims that law enforcement may have used excessive force.
