Grand jury indicts Jeremiah Oliver's mother and her boyfriend

FITCHBURG, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Criminal indictments related to the case of a missing 5-year-old boy from Fitchburg were handed up Friday.

Jeremiah Oliver has been missing for months, and this case is the reason that the Department of Children and Families has come under heavy fire. On Friday, Oliver's mother, Elsa, and her boyfriend Alberto Sierra were officially indicted by a Worcester County Grand Jury on several charges.

Both are accused of allowing Oliver to suffer physical injuries and charged with three counts of reckless child endangerment, kidnapping and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. His mother is being held on $100,000 bail and her boyfriend has been denied the right to bail.

Oliver vanished in September, but authorities only learned of it in December after the boy's sister told her teacher. Critics say police could have found out sooner if the DCF officer assigned to Oliver's family hadn't lied to her supervisors about visiting the Fitchburg home.

Because of what happened there, several DCF employees have been fired and calls have been made for the departments commissioner to step down.
