False Labeling Warning

Posted: Updated:

Ever buy a face cream that just didn't work the way it was advertised? Or, maybe a health supplement that didn't live up to the hype? Many of us do but few of us file a complaint.

A national watch dog group says misleading or false labeling is a big problem.  It's a problem the False Labeling Complaint Center says annually costs consumers billions of dollars.  But, it seems most of us, even if we think we've been had, don't do anything about it.

What kind of things are we talking about? How about hidden fees that you discover buried in bills? Report it. How about food that was advertised to offer certain nutritional or health benefits? Well, if you think you paid for something that you didn't get, report it.  If you bought a home improvement product but found it defective, then you can report that, too.

It's your money and you should get what you pay for. The False Labeling Complaint Center is urging you, if you think you were intentionally misled as to the quality, or the viability of a product by false labeling, to contact them at 866-714-6466.

Here are some guidelines: You have to have purchased the product or service in the last year. You have to have kept that receipt, too. And you have to have the packaging that makes the promise that you are disputing.

Here is the link to the False Labeling Complaint Center.

Here's the sure fire way to stay on budget at the grocery store: Plan your menu in advance, make a list then stick to it. So how is it that you're still spending more than you should and ending up with less than you need? Because too many of us shop at the wrong time.

A credit card balance can easily get out of control. You can chip away at that debt by transferring the balance to a lower interest card.  But, before you jump on that great offer, hit 'pause'. It's not for everyone.
