Family Rescues Deer After It Gets Stuck In Picket Fence

Posted: Updated:

It was a rough start to the day for this deer in Attleboro who started the morning stuck in a backyard picket fence.

Grant recalls, "I went out and looked at it and then I saw some fur so I ran into the house ' mom it's a deer!'"

Grant Kelley was the first one to spot the deer as he was letting his dog Dixie out Sunday morning.

"We thought they were two huge branches sticking out and I thought that was pretty weird," remembers Grant.

But what he thought were branches actually turned out to be the deer's hind legs stuck between the pickets of this fence.

He continues, "I peered over the other side of the fence and I saw the whole body of the deer and the animal looking at me like help!"

Luckily, Brian Kelly was just getting home from working the overnight shift and came to the rescue.

"The first thing I did was walked over and it started to kick. It was pretty dangerous so I pet the deer started to talk to it for a minute and it started to calm down," says Brian.

Once it stopped bucking, Kelley was able to free the deer's legs.

The animal is in pretty good shape with just a few scrapes and scratches on its hind legs.

"There wasn't any real damage. Once the deer got on the other side it seemed to be ok," explains Brian.

Finally freed from the fence, the deer hightailed it out of there.

A big relief for both the deer and for the Kelley family.
