Graves of babies, veterans vandalized for scrap metal

WALTON COUNTY, Ga. -

A case of vandalism in Walton County, GA has several families horrified.

Police say three people have been charged with unearthing grave vases and attempting to sell the vases as scrap metal.

In some cases, the small grave sites were those of children and veterans.

The suspects, according to investigators, removed the bronze vases from grave sites.

The Walton County Sheriff's Office says three people: Brian Hicks, Samantha Mathis, and Marissa Savage, took dozens of vases from Hill Haven cemetery.

An additional grave was disturbed in Monroe and a third in Winder, authorities say.

Officials claim the crew broke them up and tried to sell them for scrap, but the buyer knew exactly what they were and called 911.
