Canton, Mich. (WJBK) - A Canton hockey team is rallying around one if its teammates after his mother recently died from cancer.

Two teammates on the Victory Honda House Mites became fast friends after learning both their moms had been diagnosed with cancer.

Now the friend and his team is supporting the DeMaggio family, hosting an open skate benefit to raise money for the family.

The DeMaggio Family Open Skate Benefit is at Canton Arctic Edge March 29, 2014 from 2 - 4 p.m.

Canton Arctic Edge is located at 46615 Michigan Ave, Canton, MI 48188.

Everyone is invited and the event runs

Admission costs five dollars and includes a skate rental. Participants will receive a snack and a drink.

Those attending can also try their luck at a 50/50 raffle and check out the great items at a silent auction, including signed sports memorabilia.

You can also make a monetary donation online via the Carri Carr DeMaggio Memorial Fund.
