Juveniles Caught On Camera Stealing On SEPTA

Posted: Updated:
North Phila -

It was subway crime that SEPTA riders say is just plain sad. Young kids were caught on tape running even skipping along a subway platform, but cops say this is no innocent game. These two are just minutes away from being arrested. Police say those children almost got away with their crime.

Theft of smartphone's is crime common on SEPTA, but the suspects in this case are anything but common.

SEPTA surveillance video shows two boys taking off moments after swiping a woman's iPhone onboard the Broad Street line. You then see the boys run up the stairs on onto Broad and Wyoming.

SEPTA riders we showed the video were shocked and disappointed when we told them the ages of the boys. The first boy is 10-years old. The one skipping behind him in the red back pack is 13-years old.

The victim reported the theft to SEPTA police and with the help of the "Find My IPhone" app. Police tracked down the 2 juveniles later 5 blocks away. One of the boys was holding the stolen iPhone.

"Certainly you think they have a poor upbringing and they don't have a good set of morals. I'm certainly shocked and surprised, "said Nadine Smith of Elkins Park.

The two boys have been released to their parents but they are facing theft charges. Police say if it wasn't for that app the kids may have never been caught.
