Report: $8 dining tab started fatal police chase

Posted: Updated:

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) - An $8 restaurant tab appears to have been the catalyst for a wild police chase that ended with a fatal shooting of a suspect in Atlantic City.

The Press of Atlantic City  reports the events that led to the shooting of Antoquan Watson on Thursday began when Watson dined at a Pleasantville restaurant and didn't have enough cash to cover the bill after two credit cards were rejected.

The 27-year-old Watson, of Monroe Township in Gloucester County, allegedly pulled a gun and jumped into an SUV and drove off. Police from Pleasantville, Egg Harbor Township and Atlantic City took up the chase which eventually culminated when Watson allegedly fired at officers and they fired back, killing him.

The Atlantic County prosecutor's office is conducting an investigation.
