NORTH ADAMS, Mass. (AP) - North Adams officials say cell phone and Internet service have been knocked out after radio towers on top of a nearby mountain collapsed in high winds and heavy rain.
The North Adams Department of Public Safety used the city Police Department's Facebook page to make the announcement on Sunday. It says interruptions in cell phone and Internet service are significant.
A police dispatcher said a portable tower and transmitters are being installed to provide crucial communications for the city of about 13,500 residents.
The North Adams Police Department says it will monitor its Facebook page if anyone is unable to contact Public Safety by telephone. It says it's unknown how long it will take to correct this problem.
