Third suspect arrested in connection with stabbing of Methuen High student

Posted: Updated:

METHUEN, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Two men were arrested in connection with the stabbing of an 18-year-old student at Methuen High School Tuesday, and a third was arrested on Wednesday.

Levi Jose Cruzetta, 19, of Methuen is charged with assault and battery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Justin Suriel, 18, was also arrested on charges of assault and battery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. They were both arraigned Wednesday and are being held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing on April 9.

A third suspect, Jomar Vega, 18, was arrested Wednesday at Methuen High School "without incident," according to Methuen Police Chief Joseph Solomon. Police did not immediately say what charges he faced.

Methuen Fire Department confirmed on their Twitter page that there was a stabbing at the high school at about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Superintendent Judy Scannell said an 18-year-old student was "accosted" by three non-students and stabbed in the "buttocks."

The incident happened in the parking lot of the school, after dismissal, officials say. The school was not put on lockdown because police saw the suspects run in the opposite direction of the school, into the woods.

K-9 units and the Massachusetts State Police helicopter aided Methuen police with the search.

Cruzetta turned himself in after receiving a call from police. He was a graduate of the high school.

Both Cruzetta and Suriel are being held on $50,000 cash bail.

Police are also looking for one other "person of interest" related to the stabbing. The investigation remains ongoing.

The victim was transported to Holy Family Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to Solomon. He was allegedly stabbed with a folding pocket knife.
