Plymouth officer in fatal crash described as positive, encouraging

PLYMOUTH, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Gregory Maloney's friends in the Plymouth Police Department will remember him as someone who was always smiling.

"Always had a smile for you. Always an encouraging word. No matter what was going on in his life, he found a positive," said Marty Mason.

Maloney died Tuesday afternoon following an on-duty motorcycle crash on Samoset Street. Roads and highways were shut down Wednesday as his body was escorted home.

Police officers and first responders lined the streets from Boston to Plymouth to show support.

Maloney joined the Plymouth Police Department 17 years ago and was named to the motorcycle police unit in 2009. He was married and had two teenage sons. His older son graduated from Plymouth's Junior Police Academy last week.

The Plymouth Police Chief said funeral arrangements would be made Thursday.

It remains unclear what caused the fatal crash.
