The reported assault happened Thursday, and according to the Middlesex County Sheriff's Office, a criminal complaint has been filed against Remy charging him with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
It's unclear who Remy allegedly attacked, but the 35-year-old has been moved to a separate area of the jail where he is to have no contact with any other inmates.
The Middlesex Sheriff's Office released the following statement Friday:
"The Middlesex Sheriff's Office has brought a criminal complaint against Jared Remy, 35, of Waltham, charging him with assault & battery with a dangerous weapon. Mr. Remy is alleged to have assaulted a fellow pre-trial detainee at the Middlesex jail in Cambridge on April 3.
