Marathon memorial exhibit unveiled at Boston Public Library

BOSTON (AP) - Messages of hope and resilience were spread at the opening of monthlong marathon memorial exhibit at the Boston Public Library.

Mayor Martin Walsh said Monday the exhibit is a way for the city to heal and witness the solidarity of others in times of strife.

The artifacts are all from the original makeshift memorial that piled up in Copley Square during the days after the attack last April 15 that killed three people and injured more than 260.

The anniversary exhibit called "Dear Boston: Messages from the Marathon Memorial," includes a selection of the thousands of items left in downtown Boston, including 150 pairs of running shoes, messages of support and hope, running bib numbers and several "Boston Strong" memorabilia.

U.S. Senator Edward Markey and Elizabeth Warren were also in attendance.
