NEW YORK (AP) - New York City's first Democratic mayor in a generation has been in office nearly 100 days, and so far, Bill de Blasio's term has been marked by victories on campaign promises and a series of setbacks.

Most of his energy was devoted to a single issue, his pledge to create universal pre-kindergarten and fund it with a tax on wealthy residents.

The tax died in Albany but de Blasio ended up securing the money needed to launch the program.

He also increased the number of workers eligible for sick days and dropped the city's challenge to federal oversight of the stop-and-frisk police tactic. But he lost other battles in Albany and was criticized for his handling of two snowstorms.

Political experts largely gave de Blasio good marks.
