Child-porn charges considered after high schooler's sexually explicit video spread around school

Posted: Updated:
SOUTHGATE, Mich. (WJBK) - Southgate police say they are looking into possible child pornography charges against several teenagers who circulated a sexually explicit cell phone video of a classmate.

The cell phone video in question is said to be of a 9th grade female student dancing around when she began to strip naked. FOX 2's Robin Schwartz reports the act was recorded by 15-year-old girls at a sleepover, and students say drinking was involved.

Twelve cell phones of students at Southgate Anderson High School have been turned over to police.

"The detective in charge of it, he contacted the Wayne County Prosecutor's office, and they indicated that they wanted to see the video to determine what, in fact, was contained on it," says Thomas Coombs, Southgate Police Department's Director of Public Safety.

Police have obtained a search warrant to find out what's on the phones and say four girls who attended the sleepover are in question.

Coombs says the case should be ready to send to the prosecutor by Monday.

He reminds that this should serve as an important lesson to all teens -- do not take photos or record anything you wouldn't want others to see.
