Malden man accused of threatening off-duty officers with knife

Posted: Updated:

MALDEN, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A Malden man is facing charges after investigators alleged he threatened an off-duty police detective and an off-duty State Trooper with a knife.

Malden police say the off-duty law enforcement officers, who are brothers, were driving down Salem Street when the incident occurred. The men turned left onto Mt. Vernon Street, at which time they claim a man driving in the opposite direction became angry over the turn.

The men told police the suspect, later identified as Sean Sullivan, 41, began to shout racial slurs and threaten them. They say he brandished a large knife with a brass knuckle handle while shouting.

Sullivan was later arrested on Main Street and the knife was recovered from his car. He is charged with assault by means of a dangerous weapon, carrying a dangerous weapon, and threats to commit a crime.

The 41-year-old was scheduled for arraignment Monday in Malden District Court. Police say further charges could be pending.
