Officer struck in hit and run fighting for his life

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Bergen County Police Officer Daniel Breslin is fighting for his life at New Jersey's Hackensack Hospital.

Officials say Officer Breslin was hit from behind by another vehicle on Route 46 west in Lodi around 2am Saturday morning.

Officer Breslin had stopped parallel to another officer's vehicle because that officer was having problems with his radio.

Without warning, cops say a Ford Fusion then slammed into Officer Breslin's vehicle.

Police say the driver of the car who hit the officer's cruiser is Michael Ettz, a well liked and respected Lodi High School math teacher and track coach.

Police say Ettz ran from the scene and was arrested a short time and distance away in the backyard of his Lodi home.

Ettz is now facing numerous charges ranging from DWI to aggravated assault.

He is now out on bond awaiting his fate as the officer he hit, struggles to survive.
