IPSWICH, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com
) -- An Ipswich police officer was arraigned on domestic assault charges stemming from an alleged confrontation with his girlfriend, a fellow police officer, and the other officer's girlfriend.
Peter Nikas, 52, is facing four counts of assault and battery, malicious destruction of property, and intimidation of a witness.
Nikas is accused of getting into a physical confrontation with his girlfriend on Oct. 27, 2013. Investigators say the girlfriend then went to a friend's home along with her children and Nikas showed up. Nikas was reportedly intoxicated and began to shout at his girlfriend. An officer who lived at the home drove Nikas back to his house and tried to calm him down.
Just after midnight, prosecutors allege Nikas returned and demanded his girlfriend come out of the house. The other officer attempted to stop him from entering the house and a fight ensued. The officer was able to calm Nikas and get him to leave.
Bail was set at $1,000 under the conditions that Nikas wear a GPS bracelet, remain alcohol free, submit to random screenings, have no contact with the victims, and surrender all firearms to the police department.
