Report: 72,000 Boston parking tickets thrown out during appeal

Posted: Updated:
BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A new report suggests nearly 72,000 of the 1.3 million parking tickets issued in Boston last year were thrown out during appeal.

According to the Boston Herald, 71,922 of the tickets were dismissed. The newspaper reports one of the most common reasons for dismissal was drivers with valid permits were written up for parking in handicapped and residential spaces.

A Boston Transportation Department official told the newspaper the Office of the Parking Clerk aims to provide everyone with the opportunity to present their dispute and that dismissal doesn't necessarily mean the ticket was an error or invalid.

Boston reportedly received $57 million from parking fines in 2013.
