TAYLOR, Mich. (WJBK) -- The 23-year-old father accused of beating his 6-month-old baby boy was arraigned Tuesday afternoon.

He never asked about his son during the arraignment, but did ask for the baby's mother and doctors to forgive him. Play the video above to hear from Spirdione in court.

Corie Stahl says her son's name is Jesse and that doctors at an area hospital performed surgery to relieve swelling on his brain. "He admitted to punching Jesse several times," Stahl told FOX 2. "They think that, from the damage that was done, that he had to have hit him with something or dropped him."

FOX 2's Maurielle Lue reports Spirdione has a history of domestic violence.

Police say paramedics were called Saturday afternoon to the family's house in Taylor where Jesse was having trouble staying conscious and was breathing with difficulty.

Spirdione was questioned Saturday and arrested at the home.

Jesse's loved ones have set up a GoFundMe account to help pay for his medical expenses. You can make a donation by clicking here.
