Mayor Walsh, casino developers differ on meeting plans

Posted: Updated:
BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Mohegan Sun and Wynn Resorts both tell FOX 25 say they haven't scheduled any meetings with the city of Boston to work out a mitigation deal on a proposed casino, but Mayor Marty Walsh is insisting that is not the case.

In an interview with FOX 25 Political Reporter Sharman Sacchetti, Mayor Walsh said, "Unless my scheduler tells me something different, we have a meeting scheduled with Mohegan and we also had a meeting scheduled with Wynn, but I guess that's not on the docket now."

Walsh is asking the Massachusetts Gaming Commission to grant Boston host community status, and last Thursday, he asked Gov. Deval Patrick to step in and request the gaming commission delay its vote on that topic for a week.

Patrick said last week that Walsh told him he was close to finalizing a deal. The delay was granted, and the commission is set to take up the issue of Boston's status on Thursday.

When asked if in Walsh was fact at all close to a deal, he told FOX 25, "We were working. I was working towards sitting down with people. The signals I received from the proposals, we can get a deal done. That's what I heard. The signals from casino developers."

Mohegan Sun and Wynn resorts both tell FOX 25 they haven't had any new discussions, and Wynn adds there has been no formal outreach to Wynn from the city of Boston.

"We have been and continue to be interested in meeting with the City of Boston to discuss a Surrounding Community Agreement," said a Wynn spokesperson in a statement to FOX 25.

FOX 25 reached out to former Boston Mayor Menino to see if he had a comment, but he did not.
