MALDEN, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- One firefighter was transported to the hospital Friday after battling a blaze in Malden.
Fire crews responded to a two-family home on Converse Street at about 6 a.m. The flames apparently started in the basement before traveling all the way up to the roof.
Malden's fire chief says five people lived inside that home and everyone is believed to have made it out safely. He says when crews first arrived on the scene there was initially some confusion about who was inside at the time.
The injured firefighter is from Saugus. They were transported to the hospital with unknown injuries.
American Red Cross volunteers assisted two families affected by the fire.
