Statute of Virgin Mary decapitated

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - A Knights of Columbus hall in Bellmore, Long Island was the target of more vandalism this week.

A statue of the Virgin Mary outside of the Bellmore Ave. center was decapitated, said Nassau County Police.

The figure representing the mother of Jesus was discovered almost entirely on the ground. It had apparently been knocked off its pedestal when it was vandalized.

The statue was damaged at some point between 12 a.m. on May 13 and 10 a.m. on May 14, said police.

Detectives want to find whoever is responsible for desecrating the statue and two similar incidents in Bellmore last year.

A statue was damaged outside the hall on July 16, 2013. A Nativity Scene was vandalized at Bedford Ave. and Broadway on December 28, 2013.

If you know who is responsible for decapitating the statue or the incidents in 2013, you're encouraged to contact police at the Nassau County Crime Stoppers hotline: 1-800-244-TIPS. Police say all calls remain confidential.

Going off to college is an exciting time for the entire family, especially for the upcoming freshman. But with technology, parents can be in touch all the time. What's too much and what's just enough? Freshman move-in day seems to be harder on the parents than the students at Stony Brook University.
