BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – A homeless man was held on high bail Friday after he was arraigned on two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in connection with an attack that happened Thursday morning.
At about 4:20 a.m., police responded to 1295 Boylston St. for the report of a robbery. When officers arrived, the suspect told them that three men robbed him and took his backpack.
Shortly after that when officers were still on the scene, Boston Emergency Medical Services responded to the same area for an unresponsive man, who was later pronounced dead. The apparent cause of death was a heart attack, officials say. The manner of his death has not yet been determined.
While investigating the incidents, police found surveillance footage that appeared to show the victim alone, lying against a wall when he was approached by two men. One of the men left the area quickly. The second was carrying a backpack and believed to be the suspect. The footage shows the suspect start a physical altercation with the victim. The suspect then beats the victim with the backpack and kicks him. The altercation lasts for a while, police say, and then ends 10 minutes before the suspect calls the police to report the robbery.
The suspect Dominick Moran, 48, was arrested on two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in connection with the attack on the 56-year-old man. He was arraigned Friday and held on $50,000. He is due in court again on June 17.
The victim’s name has not been released yet.
