BROCKTON, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A 21-year-old from Brockton has been charged with murder in the stabbing death of his father.
Amilton Goncalves is accused of stabbing Joaopedro Goncalves, 44, at 16 Louis Street in Brockton Monday night.
The younger Goncalves was arraigned in Brockton District Court on Tuesday, where he was held without bail.
The Plymouth County District Attorney's office said both men lived at the Louis Street home. They allege the father and son had an ongoing dispute Monday and that Amilton hit his mother in the face earlier in the day.
The mother was transported to the hospital to receive treatment. Investigators claim Amilton and his father had an ongoing dispute Monday, and prosecutors allege Amilton also struck his mother in the face. Joaopedro took her to the hospital, and when they returned, Amilton allegedly confronted his father outside their home. The district attorney's office said the 21-year-old stabbed him once in the center of the chest during the confrontation.
Joaopedro Goncalves was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead just after 9:30 p.m.
Amilton Goncalves will be arraigned in Brockton District Court Tuesday. He will be back in court on July 24.
The death was the city's seventh homicide of the year.
