DORCHESTER, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) –A woman died after being hit by a car in Dorchester Saturday.
At about 5:15 a.m., an emergency caller reported that a pedestrian was hit by a car in the area of River and Washington Streets. The 32-year-old victim was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries where she was later pronounced dead.
Police haven't officially identified the victim, but neighbors say she lived right down the street from where she was hit. They say she was an immigrant from Africa who had been living in the states for several years, and they say she was likely on her way to work Saturday morning when she was hit.
"She worked two jobs, she got up at 5 in the morning, got the bus and did her first job. Then when she completed that, she went to her next one. I know she was saving her money to get her son back from Kenya, an 8-year-old child," neighbor Carl Calhoun said. "She was just a kind, kind girl," said Carl Calhoun, another neighbor.
Neighbors say she was just weeks away from being reunited with her son, even moving into a larger apartment in the building in which she lived to make room for his arrival.
Another community member said she was "a very pleasant, very positive individual, happy to be in the states and she was happy to live out her dream."
Police had not announced as of Sunday afternoon that any charges would be filed.
The investigation into this incident remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Boston Police Homicide Unit at 617-343-4470.
