Tips for summer grilling from Dantanna's Tavern

Posted: Updated:
Bill Hogan with Dantanna's Tavern stopped by Good Day Atlanta on Wednesday to share some summer grilling tips.

Tips for Summer Grilling:
- Remove meat from the refrigerator about 20 minutes before cooking to bring it to room temperature.  This will help the meat cook more evenly.
- Get the grill hot.  Food sticks to a cold grill and will take too long to cook.
- Oil the grill.  This will help prevent food from sticking and help make nice grill marks
- If marinating, let the meat marinate overnight, and don’t let an excessive amount of marinade get onto the grill.
- If saucing (i.e. with barbeque sauce), sauce the meat right before it comes of the grill so the sauce does not have time to burn
- Use tongs or a spatula to turn the meat.  Do not pierce it with tongs as this will let the juices flow out.  Move the meat as little as possible.
- Let the meat rest for a few minutes after it cooks.  This will allow the juices to flow back into the meat and make for a juicier steak.
