Volunteers helping to contain Ebola outbreak

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA, Ga. -

The Ebola outbreak continues to spread across parts of West Africa and Atlanta-based aid workers are doing their part to help.

Two of those sickened by the deadly virus are being transported to Emory University Hospital, but hundreds more infected with the disease will have to be treated in Africa.

Alpha Jabbie has spent years helping get medical supplies into Sierra Leon. He’s working with Atlanta-based MedShare to get emergency materials to aid workers desperate in the fight against Ebola.

Healthcare systems are almost non-existent in West African countries which means most medical care comes from volunteer doctors as well as aid workers, like the two Americans heading to Atlanta infected with the virus.

Jabbie says stopping the outbreak will depend on volunteers from around the globe, risking their own lives to give others a shot at life.

The National Organization of Sierra Leoneans in North America (NOSLINA) is joining a major international effort to generate resources to help combat the spread of the deadly virus. For more information, click here.
