Some asking for refund after Boston mud run moved to Maine

Posted: Updated:
(MyFoxBoston.com) -- It's a down and dirty obstacle race for women - similar to the "Tough Mudder" races - and bills itself as "Mudderella." But many who signed up to participate in the Boston event are angry that they won't be able to - because organizers of the event had to relocate it to a town in Maine.

It's the third time organizers have changed the venue, and some are considering it a dirty move.

"Seems like it's kind of been unorganized," said Trista Christensen, who along with three friends, signed up for the all-female event back in February. "It's about a five mile course with 12 to 15 obstacles."

But the latest obstacle is a change of venue: From Amesbury Sports Park, to a location in Westbrook, M.E., which is more than an hour away.

"I would never have signed up for it if I knew it was going to be in Maine," Christensen said.

Organizers say it's beyond their control.

A letter on their website says Amesbury Sports Park lost rights to their property. The previous venue change a month ago in Haverhill was due to city officials banning events at a venue there.

Mudderella posted a video to apologize.

Women who signed up paid anywhere from $60 to more than $100 to take part, But Mudderella is not offering refunds, only a chance to run another race. The next two are in Detroit or Virginia.

That's leaving Trista and dozens of women who reached out to FOX 25 very upset. Trista will run the race, but two teammates can't get to Maine and want their money back.

"I really think they should offer women refunds who aren't able to make it," Christensen said.
