ATTLEBORO, Mass. (
MyFoxBoston.com) --Police arrested a man after he allegedly had inappropriate contact with a child Saturday at an Attleboro motel.
Officers were called to the Day's Inn on Washington Street at about 12:30 p.m. for a report of a man inappropriately touching a child. The 45-year-old man allegedly kissed the 5-year-old on the mouth and grabbed her, police say.
The victim was in the man's room at the time, and her mother was standing just outside in the hallway. Immediately after the alleged kiss, the little girl ran out to tell her mother who then called police.
Police say the man confessed to the whole thing.
The Department of Housing and Community development tells FOX25 that several rooms at the motel are being used as part of the state's emergency shelter program for homeless families.
Resident Stephanie Kelly says she lives there as part of the program with her baby daughter.
"I see him in the hallways and it's kinda disgusting because he touched my daughter's cheek and would tell me 'Oh she's so cute' and then hearing that it just made my stomach flip," she said.
Residents at the transitional program at the days inn says up to 38 families live here. And many of them say now they feel unsafe after this alleged incident. Housing administration sources say the man is not a part of the program.
He was taken into custody and identified as Ruino Torres. He will be charged with one count of indecent assault and battery on a child. Torres is currently being held on $5,000 bail. Officials say his age and address were unavailable Saturday night, but police say he is a native of Guatemala who works as an electrician for a beverage company in Boston.
